The Om Habibeh Foundation (OHF), established in 1991, is a locally registered NGO under the umbrella of the Aga Khan Foundation. OHF works to advance the quality of life for disadvantaged communities in Egypt’s Aswan Governorate. Its programming spans healthcare, education, income generation, early childhood development, and civil society strengthening. OHF is deeply embedded in the local context and collaborates with a broad network of public and private partners to deliver inclusive, sustainable, and innovative solutions to complex development challenges.

About the Role

As CEO of OHF, you will lead all aspects of the organisation’s operations and strategy in Aswan. This includes driving programme direction and quality, building internal systems and team capacity, overseeing finances and compliance, and representing the organisation externally. The CEO is responsible for aligning local work with AKF’s global priorities, coordinating closely with AKF Egypt and AKF Geneva. The role requires strategic vision, operational acumen, a deep commitment to community impact, and balancing internal leadership with external influence.

Purpose of the Role

The CEO is responsible for providing strategic leadership to OHF and ensuring its operations and programmes are mission-aligned, effective, and sustainable. This includes leading the design and delivery of high-quality programmes, strengthening internal systems, cultivating talent and performance, mobilising resources, and managing risk. The CEO acts as OHF’s most senior representative in Egypt and plays a critical role in maintaining the organisation’s reputation, integrity, and alignment with the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) values.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic planning, prioritisation, and execution of OHF’s programme portfolio in line with AKF’s global framework and board guidance;
  • Strengthen internal management systems across HR, finance, compliance, operations, and IT to ensure operational excellence;
  • Supervise and support the senior management team and foster an inclusive, performance-driven culture;
  • Oversee budgeting, financial planning, risk management, and asset stewardship;
  • Manage the design, implementation, and evaluation of programmes that deliver measurable community impact;
  • Ensure regulatory compliance, legal soundness, and security measures are in place across all operations;
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, government counterparts, partners, and AKDN entities;
  • Represent OHF at local, national, and international levels, safeguarding its reputation and mission integrity;
  • Report to the AKF General Manager (or designate), accountable to the OHF and AKF Boards;
  • Serve as a bridge between global AKF priorities and country-specific realities;
  • Work closely with the Senior Management Team (SMT) to foster a cohesive, high-performing team and cultivate an enabling environment across the organisation;
  • Promote collaboration, trust, and alignment within the team by proactively addressing tensions and disagreements in a constructive manner;
  • Apply a resolution-focused approach to conflict management, contributing to a respectful and healthy organisational culture.

Required Skills

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in social or international development, including 3+ years in senior management roles;
  • Strong strategic and operational leadership experience in complex, mission-driven environments;
  • Demonstrated success in managing internal operations, including HR, finance, and compliance;
  • Financial literacy with experience in strategic budgeting and resource alignment;
  • Proven ability to coordinate teams, manage risk, and maintain programme quality under pressure;
  • Fluent in spoken Arabic and in written and spoken English;
  • Knowledge of Egypt’s development landscape and the context of Aswan (preferred);
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and external representation skills;
  • Commitment to AKDN’s values of pluralism, ethics, and service;
  • Demonstrated resilience, integrity, and emotional intelligence in leadership.
