The position

The Institute of Ismaili Studies (IIS) is seeking a dynamic and strategic Head of Programmes, Human Resources Development to contribute to the overall intellectual life of The Institute.

The role is based in the newly established Department of Education (DoE) at The Institute of Ismaili Studies, London. The postholder is responsible for steering, developing, and managing the delivery of several Human Resource Development programmes for community institutions globally. The postholder will oversee the development of the curriculum and content of several such educational training programmes aimed at preparing key HR, primarily educators and leadership

The postholder is expected to oversee several teams, programme streams and budgets. The ideal candidate will have experience of managing several direct reports, engaging in stakeholder consultation, and the delivery of multiple complex projects on time and within budget. .This role is for a professional who will be able to develop and deliver a high volume of quality training programmes.

  • Design, develop and deliver impactful programmes that advance the training for HR for the needs of the global community system.
  • Demonstrate confidence and cultural sensitivity to talk comfortably with colleagues, community members and wider stakeholders, including academics and leadership.
  • Actively contribute to the development and design of high-quality programmes, modules, assessment frameworks, events and teaching materials, teaching and learning strategies and certification/credentialling
  • Understand how IIS academic research and cutting-edge research in Islamic Studies and Humanities can be adapted for use and application in the training of the HR.
  • Understands the need for and how to ensure robust monitoring and evaluation frameworks are in place for each programme, as well as identifying outcomes and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Objectives and Key Results OKRs

Educational Qualifications
Essential Criteria

IIS is seeking to appoint an experienced manager with a qualification and experience in Islamic Studies, Education and/or Human Resource Development.

  • Master’s degree in Islamic studies, and/or Education
  • PhD in the relevant fields of Islamic studies or Education 

Desirable Criteria

  • Proficiency in English
  • Language skills relevant to the field and geographical spread of the AKDN, such as Urdu, Arabic, Gujarati and Farsi 
  • Professional Qualification in Human Resource Development or Education 
  • Higher education teaching accreditation at least on the level of Associate Fellow or Fellow of HEA level is desirable 

Knowledge and Experience:
Essential Criteria 

  • Demonstrable substantial experience in teaching and/or curriculum development at the university level 
  • Knowledge of adult learning theories and research-based educational practices used in teaching and curriculum development 
  • Demonstrable experience of co-creating effective collaborations between institutions and community-based groups and the public to develop and implement leadership training and professional development programmes 
  • Available to travel nationally and internationally

Knowledge and Experience:

Skills and Abilities

  • Competency in managing budgets and managing several direct reports 
  • Excellent verbal communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability and fluency to speak with community leaders, scholars, teachers and educators of different levels including representing the Department and The Institute at internal and external meetings 
  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively, in a team environment. 
  • Ability to develop and write programme proposals and programme reports including outcomes and output evaluation reports, with close attention to detail 
  • Employ a systematic methodology for curriculum development and module writing for educational and human resource development programmes 
  • Demonstrate good IT skills and knowledge of MS Office, Moodle/Canvas and other Virtual Learning Environments, Education Technology tools, Zoom/Teams.
  • Evidence of the development and delivery of adult educational and training programmes, events and conferences 
  • Effective management of individuals, teams and multiple stakeholders.
